What makes Liat.ai different?

Liat.ai uses advanced proprietary models to watch the match from a single camera feed. It commentates live on what those models detect, in the language you choose.

Who is Liat.ai for?

Liat.ai is for anyone who shows football matches to an audience. That includes broadcasters, streaming platforms, leagues, clubs, federations and academies.

Sports technology teams can also put the commentary inside their own product.

Liat.ai solutions

Does Liat.ai work for lower leagues, amateur and youth football?

Yes. Liat.ai works at every level of the game, from a professional league to a youth academy. A single camera at the ground is enough to start.

Can Liat.ai do more than commentary?

Yes.

  • Liat.ai generates highlights automatically. You can customise highlight reels per player, per team or by event type.
  • Liat.ai writes posts about the match and sends them to your social media accounts while the match is still running.
  • The commentator can speak your sponsor's ad, and Liat.ai can place a digital banner on the pitch inside your video.
  • Liat.ai detects formations and team shape, team statistics, heatmaps and pressure data.

How it works

How does Liat.ai work?

Our advanced proprietary models watch the live match. They follow every player and the ball. They detect each event, the player who made it and where on the pitch it happened.

Liat.ai adds the score and the story of the match so far. It then writes the commentary and speaks it in the language and the voice you chose.

How the technology works

What events does Liat.ai detect?

Liat.ai detects more than thirty types of event as the match is played.

Some of the events it detects

  • Goals
  • Shots
  • Headers
  • Crosses
  • Passes
  • Dribbles
  • Fouls
  • Cards
  • Free kicks
  • Penalties
  • Corners
  • Throw ins
  • Kick offs
  • Substitutions
  • Ball out of play
How quickly does the commentary follow the match?

Liat.ai commentates live, with minimal latency. You can tune the latency and the quality for each feed.

The lowest latency comes from taking each audio clip on its own, timestamped.

What happens when Liat.ai is not sure what happened?

Multiple models have to agree before the commentary names an important event. If you send us your live data feed, Liat.ai also uses it to confirm events (optional).

When it cannot be sure, the commentary says so out loud, as a commentator would: “That could be a foul.”

Does Liat.ai only work on live matches?

No. Liat.ai can commentate on a match live, or on a recording after the match.

Cost

How much does Liat.ai cost?

Commentary on Liat.ai starts from about $3 a match. A human commentary team costs $1,000 or more a match.

What is included in the price?

Highlights, social posts and tactical analysis are included with the commentary.

Languages and voices

What languages can Liat.ai commentate in?

Liat.ai can commentate in any language you need. It writes the commentary in each language directly.

You also choose the region the language is spoken in, such as Spanish (Spain) or Spanish (LatAm).

Can one match go out in more than one language?

Yes. Each feed has its own language and tone, and every feed comes from the same live match. You can also give your viewers a set of languages to switch between.

Can we choose the voice and the style of the commentary?

Yes. You choose a male or a female voice, or one of our named commentators. Gary and Marcus are our English commentators.

You also set how calm or how excited the commentary sounds, and how fast it speaks. It can follow your own style guide.

You set all of this for each feed, and you can change it during a match.

Can the commentary take a side?

Yes. The commentary can be biased to either team, follow one player, or stay neutral. A home feed and an away feed can come off the same match, and each set of supporters hears its own.

Does Liat.ai know our players and the history of the teams?

Liat.ai detects each jersey number and team from the live match. Line-ups sent before kick off help the commentary name every player, and you can tell us how you want the names pronounced (optional).

Records, head to head and player careers can be added into the commentary if external data is provided or available online (optional).

Getting started

What camera does Liat.ai need?

We require a single broadcast camera to start. No extra installations are needed. We recommend a 1080p camera stream for best performance.

Multiple cameras and full panoramic views can help enrich the commentary and improve detection (optional).

Do we need tracking hardware or a data feed?

No. The live match is the only input you need. You do not need tracking hardware or a data feed.

If you have a live score and event feed, you can send it to us to confirm events and enrich the commentary (optional).

How does Liat.ai fit into our broadcast?

We take your existing camera feeds as inputs. Video reaches us over SRT, RTMP, or HLS.

You can take the commentary back in three ways:

  • We hand you the finished stream, with the commentary already on your video.
  • We hand you the audio on its own, and you mix it with your video.
  • We hand you each audio clip on its own, timestamped, and you place it yourself.

What do we need to send you?

A pilot needs a video feed and somewhere to send the audio back.

Optional data that helps the commentary

  • Your team sheets and player names.
  • How you want the names pronounced.
  • Your live score and event feed.
  • Records and past results for the two teams.

Optimise commentator quality

How can we help Liat.ai detect more from our video?

The commentary can only be as good as what Liat.ai detects in your video. These are the things that help it most.

Send 1080p video at a high bitrate

Almost every camera records at this quality today. When the quality drops, it is usually after the camera: in the streaming protocol, in the internet connection at the ground, or in the settings the video file is saved with. Checking those three is the quickest way to better detection.

Keep the lines of the pitch clear

Liat.ai uses the lines of the pitch to place every player and every action. Some grounds have lines from other sports on the same pitch, or cones, spare goals and training equipment around it. For a ground like that, we need to adjust our models to compensate for these unexpected variables before they become confident in their outputs. Footage from your ground lets us fine-tune them quickly, and the adjustment carries over to every match you play there after.

Manual event triggers (optional)

We can give you a lightweight control layer. An operator you assign triggers key events, such as goals, cards and substitutions, manually and in real time. Each trigger goes straight into the commentary, so every important moment is commentated even if the stream quality dips. The triggers also act as labelled data from your footage, which helps our models adapt to it, so detection improves with every match after.

Allow a short delay

Liat.ai commentates with minimal latency, counted from the moment your live stream reaches us. If your broadcast can allow a few seconds of delay, Liat.ai sees what comes next before it speaks, which makes it more certain of what is happening now. We call this delayed live.

Send the recording after the match

A recorded match is usually higher quality than the live stream, which depends on the internet connection at the ground. So if the stream dips on the day, the recording still gives you a lot. From the full match, Liat.ai makes highlight videos with commentary on them. They use the same models, they are shorter, you can customise them, and they are ready to post once the match has ended.

How can we make the commentary richer?

Even when the video is perfect, the more Liat.ai knows about the match, the more the commentary has to say. It can fill the quieter spells with interesting information, and bring out the players and the plays you want highlighted.

Tell us about the match (optional)

  • Your live data feed makes each event more certain, and you hear that in the commentary.
  • Line-ups and jersey numbers let the commentary name every player and the formation.
  • A pronunciation guide makes sure each name is said the way you want.
  • The history of the fixture, and the stats of the teams and players so far, let the commentary talk about them like a full broadcast.

Allow a short delay

With a few seconds of delay, the commentary can treat connected moments as one. When a shot becomes a goal, a short line on the shot leads straight into the goal, rather than two lines that talk over each other.

Tell us how you use the commentary

Where the commentary goes out and what your viewers expect from it both shape it. Once we know, we tune the delay, the tone and the detail to suit you.
